Bridget Blake

In the storied history of Dr. Phillips High School athletics, no athlete has ever collected more medals or won more championships than Bridget Blake, whose dominance in both Cross Country and Track and Field may never be matched. Blake came to Dr. Phillips as a sophomore in 2010 and rewrote the DP recordBridget Blake books immediately. After winning the Metro, District, Regional and State Championship in Cross Country, she continued her success that spring in Track, earning three Metro titles, three District Championships, the Regional Championship in the 1600m and took home the gold medal in the State Championship in both the 1600m and 3200m. Blake was named the Florida Dairy Farmers Class 3A State Cross Country Runner of the Year in addition to Central Florida Runner of the Year in both sports.

Bridget Blake's legend grew even more as a junior where she repeated as State Cross Country Champion and defended her State Track and Field titles in both the 1600m and 3200m events. The post-season awards also mounted as she claimed Orange County, Central Florida and State Runner of the Year honors while earning a trip to the Foot Locker Southeast Regional (Charlotte) and National Championship (San Diego) meets; an honor she would receive again as a senior.

Blake earned her third consecutive Cross Country State Championship and added two more State Championships in Track and Field in the 1600m and 3200m, events she owned all three years, and added a State Runner-Up finish in the 800m. Deservedly so, in addition to the local and state awards she had won the last two years, she was crowned the Gatorade State Runner of the Year, Brighthouse Sports Network's Central Florida Athlete of the Year, FIAAA Sportsmanship Award winner and earned the 2013 Dr. Phillips HS Most Outstanding Female Athlete of the Year award.

All told, Bridget Blake amassed 11 area and state Runner of the Year awards, nine Metro Championships, 11 District Championships, eight Regional Championships and an astounding nine State Championships in just three years. Additionally, Bridget Blake owns the top three Cross Country times in our program's history (17:27, 17:45, 17:47). For Track, Blake's records in the 800m (2:14.78), 1600m (4:54.74) and 3200m (10:40.30) may never be touched. Her extraordinary high school career earned her a scholarship to Florida State University where she continued her success as a distance and steeplechase runner for the Seminoles. One of the best athletes in school history and unquestionably our most decorated, Bridget Blake will forever be recognized as both a champion and a legend.
