Mike Shipp

One can easily argue the case that the rise to prominence of Dr. Phillips Men's Basketball began with the arrival of Mike Shipp. For three consecutive years (1996-1998), the Panthers advanced to the state Final Four with Mike Shipp

at point guard. He averaged 13.2 points per game as a junior and 17.3 as a senior while earning 6A All State Tournament Team honors in 1998. With Shipp running the show, Dr. Phillips won 82 games over three seasons, a feat that has not been surpassed since his graduation.

After graduating Dr. Phillips in 1998 as the school's all-time leader in five statistical categories, including career points scored and assists, Mike Shipp earned a basketball scholarship to Florida A&M.

In 2002, Mike Shipp was elected to the Dr. Phillips High School Athletic Hall of Fame, the first Men's Basketball player to be so honored.
