Larry Payne Gymnasium

Larry Payne Gymnasium is one of the largest high school facilities in Central Florida.  It seats 2,200 people and is the home of Men's and Women's Basketball, Men's and Women's Volleyball and Wrestling.  Because of its size and accessibility, the facility is often used for large events, rental requests and has even been used by the Chicago Bulls, Philadelphia Sixers and the Orlando Magic.

Dubbed the "House of Payne," the gymnasium is named after former Principal Larry Payne who led the school from 1993-1997.  Mr. Payne kept alive a strong tradition of school spirit and oversaw the birth of an athletic dynasty when Dr. Phillips HS captured FHSAA Athletic Program of the Year in 1996 as well as four consecutive Metro Conference Athletic Program of the Year awards from 1993 through 1996.

Perhaps the most memorable event held in the facility was the 2006 Men's Regional Basketball Final which saw Dr. Phillips defeat rival Olympia, 81-59, in front of a school-record crowd of over 2,200 fans to send the Panthers back to the State Final Four for the first time since 1998.
