Defense lifts Football past Gainesville

No reasonable Football mind will put too much stock in the results of a spring game but it would certainly be unreasonable not to be impressed with the DP defense last night against Gainesville. The Panthers forced four turnovers and subsequently gave the offense an added lift in a 10-7 victory over the defending State Runner-Up Purple Hurricanes. Sophomore Ethan Shafer put DP on the board, 3-0, in the first quarter with a 30-yard field goal and the Panthers were in prime position to add to their lead midway through the second. Unfortunately, a fumbled pitch inside the 40 was returned by Gainesville deep into DP territory leading to a Gainesville touchdown just before the half.
