Vazquez wins Regional Diving Championship

Senior Manny Vazquez has already collected Metro West and District Diving titles and Friday in St. Petersburg he convincingly added a Regional Championship to his resume. Vazquez tallied a season-high 547.55 points over 11 dives to take home the championship and senior teammate Alex Kaiser placed fourth with a season-high 387.80 points. Both divers scored their highest on an inward dive, pike, with Kaiser earning 24.5 points (8.5, 8.0, 8.0) and Vazquez 27.50 (9.5, 9.0, 9.0). Junior Max Meisenheimer was the top finisher among swimmers, placing eighth in the 50 freestyle in a personal best 22.70, 17th in the 100 freestyle in 50.38 and led off the seventh-place 400 freestyle relay team with James Sweet, Dan Magrino and Gavin Collins (season-low 3:22.83). In the 200 freestyle relay, the Panthers finished tenth, cutting time in 1:32.26 with Gavin Collins, Gabe Madej, James Sweet and Max Meisenheimer. DP's 200 medley relay team dropped over two seconds and finished 12th with a time of 1:46.91 with Raphael Sessa, Gabe Madej, Dan Magrino and Gavin Collins. Other individual finishers included James Sweet in the 200 freestyle (21st in 1:53.55), Raphael Sessa in the 100 backstroke (23rd in season-low 1:00.76), Dan Magrino in the 500 freestyle (23rd in season-low 5:03.64) Gavin Collins in the 200 freestyle (23rd in 1:58.24) and Gabe Madej in the 100 breaststroke (24th in 1:08.18). DP placed 12th overall among the 29 competing teams. Divers Manny Vazquez and Alex Kaiser will both advance to Friday's State Championship meet in Stuart. Vazquez is seeded first and Kaiser is seeded 13th.
