2017 Swimming and Diving teams at the 2017 Regional Championship in St. Petersburg

Women's Swimming 10th at Regional

Junior Kayla Smith finished fourth in the 100 backstroke in a season-best time of 58.44, leading Women's Swimming to a tenth place finish among 29 teams at the Regional Championship Saturday in St. Petersburg. Smith also competed in the 100 butterfly, finishing 12th with a time of 59.08. DP put in a strong performance in the 200 freestyle relay as Kayla Smith, Caroline Grzeszczak, Samantha Horency and Roseleen Olivares placed fifth in a season-low 1:40.85. In the 200 medley relay, Kayla Smith, Roseleen Olivares, Paola Hernandez and Caroline Grzeszczak earned sixth place, touching the wall in 1:51.80. Roseleen Olivares earned eighth place in the 100 fly , dropping to a season-best 57.83, and also cut time in the 500 freestyle, finishing 17th overall in 5:15.06. Other individual finishers included Paola Hernandez in the 100 breaststroke (17th in a season-low 1:11.51), Caroline Grzeszczak in the 100 freestyle (19th in 55.95) and the 200 freestyle (24th in 2:02.29), and Samantha Horency in the 50 freestyle (24th in 26.48). Both relay teams qualified for Friday's State Championship meet in Stuart (freestyle seeded 11th; medley seeded 17th) and individually, Kayla Smith (100 back, seeded tenth) and Roseleen Olivares (100 fly, seeded 17th) advanced as well.
