Women's Wrestling opened up their defense of the State Championship Friday night at the 19-team Clash of the Titans Tournament in Orange City and DP made quite the statement that they have no intention of relinquising their title. The top-ranked Panthers brought home titles in four weight classes and placed in eight more while outdistancing second-ranked Liberty, 237-173. Sophomore Jessica Corredor (97 lbs.), junior Karoline Ortiz (120) junior Shania Gowan (170) and junior Shedeline Ulysse (195) brought home first place finishes in their respective weight classes while runner-up finishes were turned in by junior Yari Torres (106), senior Remy Hellinger (113), junior Trinity Rios (126), sophomore Jennifer Charles (138) and sophomore Michela Toussaint (182). DP also had three wrestlers earn third place with sophomore Jada St. Cyr (145), junior Anastasia Etienne (160) and freshman Aaliyah Hyacinthe (220). A good opening start for the Panthers who will head up to Wekiva Wednesday to face the host Mustangs and Freedom.
