Dr. Phillips Women's Weightlifting saw seven of its ten lifters earn podium finishes, including two champions, en route to capturing its second Metro West Conference Championship in three years. Sophomore Jada St. Cyr brought home DP's first individual title in the 139-pound class with a total lift of 255 pounds (130 bench, 125 clean and jerk) while junior Amani Guzman's 330-pound total lift earned her the title in the Unlimited division. Second place went to sophomore Jessica Corredor with a school-record 210-pound total, though Corredor actually tied for the title but by rule placed second because she weighed in at one pound more than the other lifter. Freshman Zamora St. Cyr proudly claimed a third place finish at 129 pounds with a 240-pound total lift. Also placing third were junior Megan Rush in the 119-pound class and junior Shania Gowan at 183 pounds. Junior Naomi Alezi placed third at 199 pounds with a record-tying total lift of 295 pounds (Samantha Cancel, 2012), which includes a school-record 150-pound bench press, surpassing the previous record by ten pounds set by La-Nya Callwood in 2006 and tied by Sophonie Domingue last year. As a team, DP placed first with 45 points, followed by Olympia (41) and West Orange (32). Up next is the District Championship January 11th at West Orange HS.
