Men's Basketball fends off Olympia

Daniel Love scored 22 points to lead four scorers in double figures as Men's Basketball built a 16-point lead before holding off a late charge in a 77-71 victory over Olympia. Love notched his seventh consecutive game in double digits and added six assists as the Panthers improved to 5-2 on the season. DP jumped out to a 23-15 lead after the first quarter and extended the lead to 13 by the half, 36-23. Olympia continued to push, but the Panthers counterpunched effectively in the third quarter. Threes by Dante Love, Daniel Love and Abdoulaye Thiam staved off Titan rallies to keep the lead at 13 at the end of the third quarter. DP's defense picked up the intensity early in the fourth. After a three by Dante Love, Daniel Love picked up a steal and went coast to coast to push the lead to 60-45 with 6:21 left. Esdras Jean took a perfect feed from Daniel Love and banked it home at the 4:42 mark before a pair of buckets by Jordan Poventud extended the lead to 70-54 with 3:25 left in the quarter. Olympia put together a 9-0 run over a two-minute stretch but free throws by Daniel Love and Esdras Jean down the stretch secured the victory. Dante Love finished with 14 points and four assists. Esdras Jean added a double-double with 11 points and a career-high 16 rebounds. Abdoulaye Thiam chipped in with 13 points and three rebounds. In JV Basketball action, Justin Hunter scored a game-high 19 points to lead DP to their fourth consecutive victory, 66-56 over Olympia, to up their record to 4-2. Freshmen Basketball (5-1) suffered their first loss of the season, 42-27, to visiting Olympia. Ledger Hatch led DP with ten points.
