12/20/2017 11:03:00 PM

DP Women's Basketball saw three players score in double figures and a running clock was imposed with 5:00 left in the fourth quarter as the Panthers hammered visiting Poiniciana, 64-20, to improve to 7-4 on the season. Zoe Alexander led all scorers with 18 points, Aryanna Watkins added 15 and Porchia Washington chipped in with ten points. In the first quarter, Poinciana drained a three to open the scoring but the Panthers went on a 20-1 run led by Alexander's nine points for a 20-5 lead. Aryanna Watkins scored six straight points in the second quarter for DP to push the lead to 30-9 before a jumper by Zoe Alexander and a bucket from Samijah Butler off an Alexander assist made it 34-9 with three minutes to go in the half. After Poinciana went on 6-0 run to end the first half, DP dropped the hammer in the third quarter with a 15-0 run keyed by consecutive layups from Porchia Washington and a long three from Aryanna Watkins for a 49-17 lead with 3:38 left in the period. Later in the fourth, up 53-20, Layla Benaissa's layup instituted the running clock and Megan Lapeyrouse buried a long three as the Panthers built a 40-point lead before the final 64-20 margin. DP will get some valuable practice time in over the holiday break before heading up to Gainesville January 5th.
