Men's Soccer 5th at Mike Stone Invite
12/29/2017 11:40:00 AM

Men's Soccer capped a busy holiday break with a fifth place finish at the Mike Stone Invitational in Tavares. DP (6-5-2) won their opening round game with a 5-1 pounding of Osceola as Gabriel Gonzalez-Alaca scored twice and assisted on two more goals. Micah Martin added a goal and an assist with solo scores credited to Daniel Gonzalez and Stann Louis Jeune. Defensively, Brandon Perrotti, Sam Ross, Dylan Smith and Gabriel Gonzalez were outstanding, as was goaltender Widline Charles who finished with five saves. Round two saw DP matched up with Bishop Moore and while the outcome wasn't favorable, the effort was noteworthy. DP spotted the Hornets a 2-0 lead before Micah Martin and Gabriel Gonzalez-Alaca tied the score to send the match to sudden death overtime. A controversial free kick was awarded to Bishop Moore at the top of the box and Bishop Moore capitalized on it for a 3-2 victory. The Panthers bounced back later that night, however, avenging an early season loss to Evans with a 2-0 victory over the Trojans as Micah Martin knocked in both goals to send DP to the fourth-place contest against Tallahassee Lincoln. Matt  Clark scored DP's lone goal as Lincoln topped the Panthers, 3-1, in the tournament finale. DP will now get a breather before returning to the pitch Tuesday night, January 10th, at home vs. Apopka.
