All season long, Dr. Phillips Women's Wrestling has put itself in a position to be tested and every tournament, every dual meet, the defending State Champions have left no doubt as to whom the favorite is to win the title again this year. This week at the KSA Holiday Duals at ESPN Wide World of Sports, the Panthers swept through all six matches by a total score of 463-42 to win the tournament championship handily with junior State Champion Shania Gowan earning the tournament's Most Valuable Wrestler. DP (6-0) knocked out a combined Apopka / Wekiva team (84-6), Osceola (72-12), Houston (Texas) Northside (60-24) and Miami Jackson (83-0) Thursday to set up their championship finish on Friday. DP dispatched University, 81-0, in the morning match and closed out the tournament with a resounding 83-0 victory over Lyman to hoist the trophy. The Panthers have not lost one dual meet or finished less than first in any tournament to date but when they return from the break, they'll face last year's State Runner-Up, Liberty, as well as St. Cloud in a quad meet at University January 10th. Four more tournaments are on the slate before they host the 2018 State Championship February 2-3.
