They've won all their dual meets. They won the Metro West Championship. Now you can add a District Championship to their resume. Yesterday at West Orange High School, DP Women's Weightlifting had 14 lifters place in the top six of their respective divisions (automatic qualifiers for the Regional meet) and eight lifters finished in the top three as the Panthers captured their second District Championship in three years. Sophomore Jada St. Cyr won the 139-pound division with a 260 lb total lift (135 bench, 125 clean and jerk) while sophomore Jessica Corredor placed second at 101 pounds with a school-record bench (110) and school record total lift (215). Senior Noelani Schwartz was second in the 183 pound class with a 280 lb total lift, as was junior Amani Guzman in the unlimited division with a 340 lb total lift. DP's record-setting night was highlighted by junior Naomi Alezi's performance in the 199 lb class. Alezi tied the school record with a 150 lb bench press (Samantha Cancel, 2012), set a new school record with a 155 lb clean and jerk, and broke Cancel's record for total lift with 305 pounds. DP also had three third place finishers in junior Megan Rush at 119, freshman Zamora St. Cyr at 129, and junior Angelle Domingue at 169. Junior Shania Gowan placed fourth at 169 along with sophomore Tyliyah Smith in the unlimited class. As a team, the Panthers earned 51 points, topping second place Olympia (37) and third place Apopka (33). Regional competition is set for next Wednesday at West Orange.
