1/18/2018 9:47:00 AM

Back in the House of Payne, Women’s Basketball, bolstered by a 17-0 first quarter run, turned away visiting Edgewater 59-44. Junior Zoe Alexander finished with a game-high 26 points, a season-best nine steals and six assists. DP (10-8) was in command at the end of the first quarter, up 19-3, but Edgewater stormed back to pull within four and the half, 26-22. Alexander took over in the third, however, scoring 11 of DP’s 14 points and registering seven steals that led to eight points that pushed the Panthers’ lead to 40-29 heading into the fourth. In the final quarter, Alexander scored DP’s first six points and a pair of threes from Porchia Washington sealed the victory. Washington finished with nine points, Samijah Butler tallied eight and Courtney Afram-Gyening ended the night with a team-high seven rebounds. JV Basketball led visiting Edgewater 27-9 at the half and held the Eagles scoreless in the second half with a 24-0 run in a 51-9 victory. Llayna Tolbert led the way with 13 points and Taina Kong finished with 12. JV has now won five straight to improve to 10-2. Both teams will host Lake Minneola Friday night.
