Women's Basketball turns away Lake Minneola

Friday night in the House of Payne, Women's Basketball broke a first quarter tie and pulled away from visiting Lake Minneola for a 54-41 victory. Up by three late in the second quarter, Courtney Afram-Gyening rattled home consecutive threes from the right corner and converted a subsequent free throw to send DP (11-8) into the locker room up 22-14. DP reeled off a 6-0 run to start the third quarter highlighted by Samijah Butler's deep three that gave the Panthers a 28-16 lead. In the fourth quarter, junior Truly Le erupted for nine consecutive points and Aryanna Watkins buried her second three of the game as DP closed out the Hawks convincingly. Zoe Alexander scored a team-high 16 points, pulled down seven rebounds and picked up four steals. Truly Le finished with 13 points and three steals, Courtney Afram-Gyening added eight points and Porchia Washington collected six rebounds. On the JV circuit, Nisa Costa scored 21 points, Taina Kong added 14 and Llayna Tolbert closed with 14 as well as DP dispatched Lake Minneola 53-50 to improve to 11-2 on the season. Both squads will head to Ocoee Monday night.
