Men's Water Polo routs Wekiva and Apopka

DP Men's Water Polo opened up their 2018 season with a pair of runaway victories, easily dispatching visting Wekiva (27-5) and Apopka (21-1). DP (2-0) jumped all over Wekiva in the opening game with 12 first quarter goals and never looked back. Freshman Colin Bryant came off the bench and led the team with five goals in six shots and sophomore Adrian Britto also looked solid in relief with four goals, two assists and two steals. Junior Gavin Collins put four in the cage with an assist and two steals; junior Dan Magrino finished with three goals, five assists and four steals; junior Max Meisenheimer picked up three goals, three assists and six steals. Freshman Max Collingwood had a strong debut as well with three goals, an assist and three steals. Solo goals were scored by Collin Haugh (with three assists), Alex Kaiser (assist, two steals), Raphael Sessa (steal) and Brandon Tran (two steals). Junior goaltender Gabe Madej also scored a buzzer-beating goal in addition to finishing with ten saves, three assists and five steals. The Panthers' 27 goals tied the school record set originally in 1997 and tied again in 2007 and 2013. In the nightcap, DP dismantled Apopka as the Panthers surged ahead to a 14-0 lead at the half and set it to cruise control again. Max Meisenheimer finished with six goals, an assist and two steals while Dan Magrino scored four goals, assisted on three more and collected six steals. James Sweet tallied two goals and five steals, Collin Haugh netted two goals, two assists and two steals while Max Collingwood chipped in with two goals, two assists and two steals as well. Alex Kaiser registered two goals and assisted on a third with Colin Bryant scoring twice and picking up a steal. Gavin Collins also had a strong game with a goal and a game-high four assists. Gabe Madej turned away five shots on goal, gathered up three steals and assisted on three goals. DP will be back in the water Saturday morning against Gainesville at Farnsworth Pool in Winter Garden.
