Junior second baseman Deija Benn (2018)

Softball powers past Cypress Creek
2/23/2018 12:40:00 AM

Softball spotted visiting Cypress Creek a 3-0 lead in the first inning but the Panthers erupted for five runs in their half inning and went on to a 15-4 District victory. Cypress had already plated three runs and had runners at second and third with two outs in the first but the runner on third was caught in a rundown trying to steal home before being tagged out by pitcher Raychel Trocki to end the inning. In the bottom of the first, junior second baseman Deija Benn drove a double to center to score Gracie Lopez and Megan Rush brought home Benn on a fielder's choice to cut the deficit to 3-2. Raychel Trocki then drew a two-out walk with the bases loaded to score Kati Kelly to tie the game at 3-3. Senior Kayla Rivera stepped in and delivered an RBI single to center to score Rush and Tiare Kong to give DP a 5-3 lead they wouldn't relinquish. Rush would add a two-run double in the third to finish her night 2-3 with four RBIs and three runs scored. Deija Benn went 2-4 with an RBI, stole three bases and scored three runs while Jordan Hartman and Hannah Eden both went 2-3 with a run scored. Raychel Trocki struck out five over five innings to pick up the victory. DP will host Winter Park tonight at 6:00.
