Isabela Bartczak placed tenth in the 3200m at the 2017 State Championship

Women's Track takes 2nd at Larry Kelly

At the Larry Kelly Invitational meet Friday, Women's Track and Field placed in the top eight in 15 events, including podium finishes in six, en route to a second place finish in the 12-team field. Senior Isabela Bartczak won the gold medal in the 3200m in 10:55.19 with sophomore Geraldine Valencia taking fourth (12:45.89) and senior Sabrina Bahr fifth (12:49.63). Junior Zoe Alexander captured a bronze medal in the 400m (1:00.86) and anchored the 4 x 400m relay team to the bronze medal as well in 4:10.79. Sophomore Courtney Afram-Gyening earned the bronze medal in the long jump (4.90 meters) and also placed fifth in the 400m (1:02.02). Sophomore Gabrielle Matthews also earned a bronze medal with a third place finish in the 300m hurdles (48.72) and DP collected an additional bronze with the 4 x 100m relay in 50.47. Plenty more top eight finishes to report, including a fourth place finish by the 4 x 800m relay team (10:46.57), fifth place finishes by freshman Armelle Oliantus in the 100m hurdles (17.41), sophomore Britney Damon in the 300m hurdles (51.26), junior Kambria Barry in the long jump (4.54 meters), sophomore Nowelia Blake in pole vault (2.13 meters), sophomore Domanique Douglas in the triple jump (9.61 meters) and junior Amani Guzman in the shot put (8.80 meters). Sixth place went to Gabrielle Matthews in the 100m hurdles (17.62) and junior Ebone Fortilien in the 100m (12.91) while Fortilien also placed seventh in the 200m in 27.11. Sophomore Robilina Michel was seventh in the 100m at 13.47 while senior Hannah Waddell took home a pair of eighth place finishes in the 1600m (5:44.51) and the 800m (2:36.64). Up next is the Metro Conference Freshmen / Sophomore meet wednesday at Showalter Field followed by next Saturday's Kowboy Invitational at Osceola.
