Men's Water Polo finishes Wildcat 4-0
3/4/2018 12:12:00 PM

For only the second time in program history, Men's Water Polo completed the brutal Wildcat Invitational with an undefeated record, coming back to beat Miami Gulliver, 12-11, and blowing out St. Andrew's 17-2, on the final day of competition. In the morning game, DP (11-0) found themselves down to Gulliver by as many as four goals with just over a minute left in the first half but a power play goal by Max Meisenheimer with 39 seconds left sent the Panthers into the halftime break down, 9-6. In the third quarter, James Sweet put one in the back of the net at 5:07 to shave the deficit down to two goals and the Panthers capitalized on another man-up opportunity on a Meisenheimer goal at the 5:28 mark of the fourth quarter. That triggered a four-goal barrage by DP with James Sweet tying the game at 10-10 at 4:48, Dan Magrino with the go-ahead goal at 4:14 and Meisenheimer closing out the scoring at 3:36 to give the Panthers a 12-10 lead. Meisenheimer finished with six goals and two assists; James Sweet scored twice, assisted on two more and collected six steals; Dan Magrino scored two and picked up three assists. Senior Alex Kaiser scored a goal, notched two assists and picked up three steals and Gavin Collins finished the DP scoring line with a solo goal. Collin Haugh finished with two assists and a steal while goaltender Gabe Madej registered seven saves and six steals.

In the final game of the tournament, DP erupted for nine first quarter goals and smothered overmatched St. Andrew's on defense in a 17-2 victory. Goaltender Gabe Madej blocked a career-high 17 shots and added an assist and a steal. Offensively, Max Meisenheimer accounted for seven goals, four assists and five steals with Max Collingwood (two goals, assist, steal) and James Sweet (two goals, assist, steal) adding to the mix. Six players tacked on solo goals: Alex Kaiser (goal, two assists, two steals), Dan Magrino (goal, three assists, steal), Collin Haugh (goal, three assists, steal), Gavin Collins (goal, two assists), Colin Bryant and Raphael Sessa. With this weekend's sweep, DP is off to their best start in school history and will look to add to the mark at this weekend's Ian Supra Memorial Tournament, beginning Friday against University.
