Women's Water Polo splits on final day

After opening the Wildcat Invitational with a pair of convincing victories Friday morning, Women's Water Polo took on powerful Miami Gulliver Saturday morning and suffered their first defeat of the season, 13-7. The Panthers found themselves down 5-1 after the first quarter but settled down defensively and played well the rest of the way, outscored by just two goals over the final three quarters. Caroline Grzeszczak paced the Panthers with two goals, an assist and three steals and Emma Hallson scored twice as well. Brittney Bonnin (goal, assist, steal), Bailey Valdes (goal, assist) and Peyton Haines (goal) picked up scores for DP while Sam Horency tallied seven saves and a pair of steals in the cage.

In their final game of the weekend tournament, DP led St. Andrew's, 3-2, after one quarter but shut down the Scots defensively in the second quarter en route to an 11-5 victory. Caroline Grzeszczak racked up four goals and three assists while Bailey Valdes added three goals and assisted on three more. Sophomore Hope Miller scored twice in the second half and picked up a pair of steals and junior Brittney Bonnin scored a goal and led the defense with a career-high nine steals. Peyton Haines scored a goal, Emma Hallson tallied three steals and an assist while Sam Horency was outstanding again in the net with six saves and four steals. DP improved to 9-1 on the season and will face Bishop Moore and Lake Brantley Friday on the opening day of the Ian Supra Memorial Tournament.
