Women's Track wins 9th/10th Metro

At the Metro West Conference Freshman/Sophomore Championship meet, Women's Track and Field captured gold medals in six events to win the team title by 77 points over second place Jones. DP swept the podium in the 100m hurdles with Jemiah Baker edging Gabrielle Matthews by one one-hundredth of a second in 18.19. Matthews took the silver in 18.20 and Imani Wiley the bronze in 18.84. Matthews followed up with a gold medal performance in the 300m hurdles (49.02) and Baker earned the gold in the long jump with a leap of 4.70 meters. In the triple jump, Domanique Douglas earned the gold with a leap of 9.43 meters and Geraldine Valencia won gold in the 3200m in 13:32.27. Sophomore pole vaulter Nowelia Blake took the gold (2.29 meters) with her sister Natalia earning the silver at 2.13 meters. Roxanne Deisseroth earned silver medals in both the 1600m (5:54.89) and the 800m (2:38.45), as well as the 4 x 800m relay with Isabelle Nemcik,, Teaghan Connolly and Britney Damon. Courtney Afram-Gyening's 4.67 meter long jump earned her a silver medal and she wrapped up the meet anchoring the silver medal-winning 4 x 400m relay team with Aasha Alexander, Domanique Douglas and Naika Belizaire (4:17.46). DP's bronze medalists included Isabelle Nemcik in the 800m (2:43.17), Zarah Ekhator in the shot put (8.60 meters) as well as the 4 x 100m relay team of Imani Wiley, Aasha Alexander, Irimis Mendez and Robilina Michel. DP will be back on the track Saturday at the Kowboy Invitational.
