Women's Lacrosse stumps Lake Mary
3/9/2018 12:53:00 AM

Up in Seminole County, Zariah Durham scored five of her six goals in the first half to lead Women's Lacrosse to a 15-5 victory over host Lake Mary. DP (6-1) scored in less than minute to open the game when Mary Sosebee won the opening draw (one of her 12 draw control wins), converted an assist from Justine Decker three passes later and deposited it into the back of the net for a 1-0 lead. In less than two minutes, the lead tripled to 3-0 off goals by Durham and Sosebee again before Lake Mary responded with a goal. Up 3-1, DP rallied for six straight goals, taking a 10-2 lead into the halftime break. In the second half, Lake Mary sliced into the DP lead with a pair of goals to cut the deficit to 10-4 but the Panthers triggered the running clock at the 14-minute mark with three consecutive goals to finish off the Rams. Plenty of impressive showings tonight: Zariah Durham with six goals and two assists; Justine Decker with two goals and three assists; Sara Freeman two goals, six ground balls, assist; Mary Sosebee three goals, two assists, 12 draw controls; Michelle McGrath two goals, assist; Kambria Barry with three caused turnovers in the first half and Mackenzie Allen was credited with great defense all night. Goaltender Layla Benaissa finished with a career-high eight saves in the cage. JV Lacrosse did not fare as well, unfortunately, as they fell to Lake Mary by the count of 10-2 with Maani Rodriguez earning both DP goals. The Panthers will get back on the field next week for a brutal three-game stretch beginning with West Orange at home Monday, at Ocoee Tuesday and at defending State Champion Bishop Moore Wednesday.
