3/20/2018 4:26:00 PM

After falling by one goal in their opening game at the Dan Lynch Classic in Chicago, Men's Water Polo rallied for three consecutive victories to close out the tournament with a 3-1 record. DP (18-2) opened up against Illinois' 11th-ranked Neuqua Valley and jumped out to a 4-0 lead but the Panthers were held scoreless in the third quarter as the Wildcats battled back and hung on for a 10-9 victory. That moved the Panthers into the consolation bracket where they matched up with #16 Oak Park and for DP, it was another bruising battle as they built a three-goal lead late in the fourth quarter and survived a furious rally to take the 12-11 victory. Day two of the tournament matched the Panthers with #5 Lincoln Way East and unlike the day before, DP controlled the game from start to finish, knocking off the Griffins, 7-2. The final game pitted DP and # 7 Curie in a rematch of last year's opening game. After a tight first half that saw the game tied at 4-4, DP exploded for 12 goals in the second half to win going away, 16-6. Plenty of strong individual efforts over the weekend to note including Max Meisenheimer (21 goals, five assists, ten steals), Dan Magrino (ten goals, 14 assists, seven steals), Gavin Collins (six goals, assist, five steals), Alex Kaiser (three goals, three assists, six steals), James Sweet (two goals, eight assists, 14 steals), Collin Haugh (two goals, assist, four steals) and Gabe Madej (34 saves in goal, four assists, six steals). DP will get back in the pool Thursday, March 29th as they host Seminole.
