4/4/2018 10:57:00 PM

Ninth-ranked Women's Lacrosse spotted host and 14th-ranked Olympia a three-goal lead in the first quarter but stormed back to take the lead in the second half en route to a 13-9 victory and their second straight Metro West Championship. Down 3-0, Zariah Durham put the Panthers on the board with the first of her five goals off a Justine Decker assist at 16:46. Durham cut the deficit to one with her second goal and Michelle McGrath followed with a goal of her own to tie the game at 3-3. Olympia pushed ahead by two with a pair of goals with a minute left in the half but DP responded with goals from Mary Sosebee and Sara Freeman to send both teams into the half tied at 5-5. In the second half, Olympia put two in the net to take a 7-5 lead but junior goaltender Layla Benaissa came up big with two saves that triggered a pair of goals from Sosebee and Durham to bring DP back to level, 7-7. With 10:21 left in the game, senior midfielder Yasmeen Garib gave the Panthers their first lead and Mary Sosebee buried her third goal of the night less than two minutes later to push the Panthers' lead to 9-7. Olympia broke DP's four-goal run to cut their deficit in half at 9-8 but a huge draw control win by Michelle McGrath led to goals by Zariah Durham and Justine Decker for an 11-8 lead. Sosebee would soon add her fourth goal of the night and Durham capped off the title with her fifth score as DP closed out the game with a 13-9 final. Big night offensively for Zariah Durham with five goals and Mary Sosebee with four, in addition to six draw controls that kept the Panthers in the game in the first half. Defensively, Mackenzie Allen, Kambria Barry and Yasmeen Garib were the standouts while Layla Benaissa came up big with eight saves, seven in the second half alone. DP improves to 11-3 on the season and will host Windermere tonight before heading to Lake Highland and then wrapping up the regular season hosting state powerhouse Vero Beach next week.
