Congratulations to Men's Weightlifting seniors Avinash Jawahir and Shaquille Kellyman on their school record-setting performances at the State Championship meet in Panama City! Jawahir placed third in the 169-lb weight class with a record-tying total of 605 pounds, which included a personal best bench press record of 310 pounds and tied his own school record with a 295-pound clean and jerk. Jawahir tied Brad Bindas' total weight record set back in 2012 and is DP's highest placer in program history since Jeremy Young and Cole Sidner both placed third in 2004. Shaquille Kellyman tied his own school record with a 400-pound bench press and added a personal-best 230-pound clean and jerk for a 630-pound total lift which earned him a seventh-place finish in the 219-pound weight class. Kellyman's total was just ten pounds shy of Jayson Taylor's 640-pound record set back in 2003 but his bench press makes him the first athlete in school history to eclipse the 400-pound mark in competition! As a team, DP placed 20th in the field of 44 teams, finishing behind only Timber Creek among Metro Conference schools. Congratulations to both lifters and to coach Rodney Wells on a tremendous season!
