Women's Lacrosse takes down Lake Highland
4/12/2018 1:31:00 PM

Ninth-ranked Women’s Lacrosse battled back from a two-goal deficit in the second half and surged ahead of fifth-ranked Lake Highland with a 7-2 run over the last 15 minutes of the game to bring home a 15-12 victory. Despite playing short-handed with five players sidelined due to injury or illness, the Panthers (13-3) jumped on the Highlanders early with three goals from Zariah Durham, Justine Decker and Michelle McGrath. Lake Highland would battle back to take a 6-5 lead but with six seconds left in the half, Mary Sosebee passed to Zariah Durham who fed Justine Decker for the game-tying goal as time expired. In the second half, Lake Highland put two in the cage for an 8-6 lead but again DP bounced back with goals from Michelle McGrath and Sara Freeman. The lead exchanged hands three more times before Decker, McGrath and Sosebee scored the final three goals to give DP the victory. Justine Decker finished with five goals, Zariah Durham scored four, Michelle McGrath punched in three, Mary Sosebee scored twice with 15 draw control victories and Sara Freeman gave us a goal as well as six ground balls. Defensively, Yasmeen Garib, Kambria Barry, Mackenzie Allen and Sophia Castellanos never came off the field while goaltender Layla Benaissa turned away eight shots on goal. DP will now get ready for one of the state’s top-ranked teams, Vero Beach, as they close out the regular season tomorrow night in the Spoone.
