Men's Track earns District Runner-Up

With top eight finishes in all but three events, Men's Track and Field took home a runner-up finish at the ten-team District Championship at Showalter Field Saturday. DP earned 106 points, just 14 points behind Winter Park and 11.5 points ahead of third place Timber Creek. The Panthers dominated both the 300m hurdles and the 3200m with three finalists in each event. Junior Arron Edwards earned the silver medal in the 300m hurdles in 40.86 with senior Tyrae Scott taking fourth (41.56) and senior Michael Fox seventh (42.84). In the 3200m, senior Bo Ivey earned one of two DP gold medals with a 10:02.91 finish while junior Josh Matzner took the silver in 10:07.84 and freshman Adam Berriz came through with a sixth place finish in 10:28.04. Ivey also notched a silver medal in the 1600m (4:37.75) with sophomore Kervenster Azor placing sixth in 4:51.27. Perhaps the most exciting race of the meet came in the final event, the 4 x 400m relay, where Tyrae Scott, freshman Jackson MorrowArron Edwards and sophomore Brenden Cyr held off Oak Ridge by just five hundredths of a second to win the gold medal in 3:28.11. Senior Shaquille Kellyman gave DP the silver medal in the discus with a throw of 133' 9" and also took fifth in the shot put with a season-best throw of 44' 5.25". Junior Kenyon Baron earned a silver medal with a 22.88 finish in the 200m and picked up a bronze medal in the 4 x 100m relay with junior Antone Alexander, sophomore Jacquez Jones and sophomore Nivon Holland in 43.25. Rounding out top eight place-winners were Tyrae Scott in the 110m hurdles (fourth in 15.72), Michael Fox in the 110m hurdles (fifth in 16.15) and triple jump (seventh in 40' 1.5"), Antone Alexander in the long jump (fifth in 21' 0.75"), freshman Ledger Hatch in the high jump (sixth at 5' 9.75"), freshman Jacob Collins in the pole vault (sixth at 9' 11.25") and sophomore Oshny Leger in the pole vault as well (seventh at 9' 11.25"). All individuals and relay teams that placed in the top four advance to the Regional Championship Thursday, April 26th, at Flagler Palm Coast.
