Flag Football beats Timber Creek 12-6 in overtime to win the 2018 District Championship

Flag Football clips Timber Creek in District final
4/25/2018 10:53:00 PM

Flag Football's defense atoned for a first quarter lapse with two big interceptions, one for a touchdown and the other setting up the game-winning score, as the Panthers slipped past host Timber Creek, 12-6, to win their eighth District Championship in the last nine years. Down 6-0 in the third quarter with Timber Creek driving, the Panthers (12-1) got a break when Shayla Douglas drove the Wolves back with a sack and Aunjani Miller followed up with an interception for a touchdown to tie the game at 6-6. DP had two opportunities to win in regulation but a fourth quarter turnover on downs at the goal line and an interception inside the five late in the fourth sent the game to overtime. In the extra period, Timber Creek won the toss and kept the football but that proved costly. Facing second down at their own ten, Timber Creek went to the air but was picked off again by Aunjani Miller. After a short pass to Megan Lapeyrouse moved the Panthers down to the Timber Creek one, quarterback Aaliyah Govan broke left and stretched over the goal line for the game-winning touchdown. Shayla Douglas finished with two sacks and four flag pulls for loss while Aunjani Miller snagged two of DP's four interceptions on defense. The Panthers will now host Ft. Pierce Central, who won their first District title by beating Vero Beach, in the Regional Semifinal next Thursday at 7:00 pm in the Spoone.
