Men's Swimming wins Spruce Creek Invite

On the strength of nine podium finishes, Men's Swimming tallied 468 points and outpaced second-place Father Lopez by 142 points to win the championship in the nine-team Spruce Creek Invitational Saturday in Volusia County. Senior sprinter Gavin Collins won the 100 freestyle in 50.94 and took home third in the 50 free (22.98) while senior Max Meisenheimer placed second in both the 50 free (22.89) and the 100 free (51.11). Collins and Meisenheimer teamed up with seniors Hayden Joossens and Gabe Madej to win the 200 free relay in 1:33.81, while the 400 free relay team of Collins, Meisenheimer, Joossens and senior James Sweet also took the top spot on the podium with a finishing time of 3:25.65. Gabe Madej added an individual title to the team's collection in the 100 breaststroke (1:09.15), placed sixth in the 100 free and also picked up a third place finish in the 200 medley relay with sophomore Ricky Cheng, sophomore Martin Arias and James Sweet (1:54.28). Hayden Joossens earned a second place finish in the 200 IM (2:19.15) and placed fourth in the 100 fly while James Sweet rounded out the podium placers with a third-place finish in the 500 free (5:21.52) as well as a fourth place finish in the 200 free. DP had plenty of top eight finishers that collected valuable points to the cause, including Ricky Cheng in the 100 back (fourth), freshman Sole Fratila in the 200 free (fifth), junior Adrian Britto in the 500 free (sixth), Martin Arias in the 200 IM (seventh), and sophomore Max Collingwood in both the 200 free and 100 back (eighth). DP also earned relay points with the 200 free team of Cheng, Martin, freshman Brady Kossoff and senior Brandon Tran (fifth) and the 400 free team of Fratila, Britto, Kossoff and Collingwood (sixth). The Panthers are back home in the Aquatic Center Wednesday against Boone.
