Senior Kayla Smith earned double gold at Wednesday's Metro West Conference Championship as Women's Swimming and Diving placed fourth among ten teams. Smith, now a nine-time Metro West champion, took top honors again this year after winning her third straight title in the 100 backstroke (1:00.42) and her first in the 100 freestyle (53.79). Junior Samantha Horency earned a bronze medal finish in the 50 freestyle, touching the wall in 26.42, and finished seventh in the 100 free in 59.15. Freshman McKenzie Moreland's first conference meet saw her earn fifth in the 100 fly (1:02.99) and seventh in the 200 IM (2:26.20) while teaming up with Smith, Horency and junior Ana Luisa Cotta for fourth place in both the 200 medley relay (1:59.07) and the 200 free relay (1:47.94). Rounding out the top eight place-winners for DP are the 400 free relay team of senior Julia Batzer, freshman Aleksandra Avram, freshman Marina Mansfield and sophomore Hannah Harris (fourth in 4:13.70), freshman diver Tierney Diedrich (fifth with 154.9 points), Marina Mansfield in the 100 breast (seventh in 1:20.44) and Hannah Harris in the 500 free (eighth in 6:23.94). DP fell just three points shy of third place and will have a chance to improve on that finish at the District Championship Friday, October 26th, at the Aquatic Center.
