Brendan Valdes (middle) won the 2018 Men's Golf Regional Championship, leading DP to a 3rd place team finish

Valdes wins Regional Championship
10/22/2018 11:17:00 PM

Men's Golf sophomore Brendan Valdes shot five-under par 67 to win the 2018 Regional Championship at Orange County National and in doing so, became the first in program history to claim both the District and Regional titles in the same year. Valdes got hot early with a birdie at the par five first and went on to birdie the par four at 9 to make the turn at -2. On the back nine, Valdes played even until his third birdie at the par five 14th and finished strong with consecutive birdies at the par four 16 and par five 17 to clinch the title. The win qualifies him for his second State Championship appearance, Tuesday, November 6th, at Mission Inn. Freshman Shawn Lalmoni had another tremendous round as well, finishing one-over par 73, tied for ninth on the leaderboard. Lalmoni registered birdies at 5, 14 and 17 and although he did not qualify for the State Championship this year, he is certainly a name to watch closely over the next three years. Sophomore Andrew Scinta finished his day with a +10 round of 82, placing 27th, and senior Joey Hodges capped his career with a +13 round 85 to give DP a team score of 307. That placed the Panthers third in the 15-team event behind Windermere and Lake Nona. Brendan Valdes and Shawn Lalmoni were each named to the All-Regional team and Valdes will represent the Panthers at the State Championship looking to improve on his tenth place finish one year ago.
