Senior Kayla Smith added another individual title to her impressive resume and was a medalist in three more events to lead Women's Swimming to a third place finish in the field of 14 teams at the District Championship. DP finished just six points shy of second place George Jenkins while Olympia won the overall team title. Smith captured gold in the 100 backstroke in a season-best 59.46, placed second in the 100 freestyle in 54.34, second in the 200 medley relay with Ana Luisa Cotta, McKenzie Moreland and Sam Horency (1:56.34), and third in the 200 free relay with Julia Batzer, Ana Luisa Cotta and Sam Horency (1:44.65). Freshman McKenzie Moreland earned a bronze medal finish in the 200 IM (2:22.32), sixth place in the 100 fly (1:02.81) and fifth in the 400 free relay with Julia Batzer, Hannah Harris and Marina Mansfield (4:05.70). Top eight finishers also included Sam Horency in the 50 free (fourth in 25.71), Ana Luisa Cotta in the 200 free (fifth in 2:07.72), Marina Mansfield in the 100 breast (eighth in 1:19.10), Julia Batzer in the 50 free (eighth in 26.82) and again in the 100 fly (eighth in 1:09.91). As of this writing, Kayla Smith is an automatic qualifier for the Regional Championship in Clearwater in both the 100 back and 100 free while we await the results from other district competitions to determine additional qualifiers.
