Despite having no seniors among the top seven runners throughout the season, Women's Cross Country capped a strong year with a 12th place finish at the Regional Championship Friday morning in Gainesville. Freshman Jasmine Little led the Panthers with a 17th-place individual finish with a personal record time of 19:56. Little barely missed qualifying for the State Championship meet as an individual by two places. Sophomore Teaghan Connolly was next through the shoot for DP with a time of 21:29.08 (69th) with junior Sydney Kaufman right on her heels in a personal record 21:29.71, good for 70th among the field of 123 runners. Freshmen Shannon Matzner (21:35) and Amber He (21:57) placed 76th and 88th, respectively, to complete DP's top five scoring team. Juniors Roxanne Deisseroth (22:19) and Meilah Wimbush (22:52) ran solid races as well. While the Panthers will not have representation at the State Championship meet next week, there is much to look forward to as every runner is scheduled to return next year with a legitimate opportunity to be one of the best teams in the state. Congratulations to the entire team and to coach Laura Kirkikis on a tremendous year!
