Men's Swimming wins the 2018 District Championship

Men's Swimming 13th at Regional

Senior Max Meisenheimer shaved a half-second off his personal best time in the 50 freestyle (22.13) and moved up two places from his seeded time to place seventh at the Men's Swimming Regional Championship and in the process, qualified for the State Championship meet next Saturday in Stuart. As a team, the Panthers placed 13th among 31 competing teams with virtually every swimmer setting either a personal or season-best time. Senior Gavin Collins cut a half-second off his personal best in the 50 free as well, jumping up four spots to finish 11th with a time of 22.40 while senior Hayden Joossens finished 22nd (22.88) and senior Gabe Madej 24th (23.27). DP also had four swimmers compete in the 100 free and all four dropped time, led by Hayden Joossens, who finished 17th at 50.12. Max Meisenheimer dropped a full second off his personal best to place 18th (50.18) followed by Gavin Collins (21st at 50.55) and senior James Sweet (24th at 51.37). In the 100 fly, senior Dan Magrino jumped up two places to win his heat, finishing 15th in a personal record time of 55.94, and sophomore Martin Arias moved up three positions with a 56.95 finish that placed him 20th. In the 100 backstroke, sophomore Max Collingwood placed 18th in 1:01.38 followed by sophomore Ricky Cheng in 23rd place at 1:03.84. Dan Magrino cut a full three seconds off his best time in the 200 free to finish 19th in 1:50.38 and Gabe Madej's time of 1:01.62 moved him into 11th place in the 100 breaststroke. Rounding out the individual competition, freshman Sole Fratila's time of 5:07.74 earned him a 21st place finish in the 500 freestyle. In the relay events, DP's 400 freestyle team of Hayden Joossens, James Sweet, Gavin Collins and Max Meisenheimer earned a ninth place finish with a season-best time of 3:19.40 while in the 200 medley relay, Ricky Cheng, Gabe Madej, Dan Magrino and James Sweet's season-best time of 1:45.64 placed them 13th overall. Congratulations to all the swimmers and to coach Leonardo Leon Ramirez on an outstanding debut season and best of luck to Max Meisenheimer next week at the State Championship!
