Fast start drives Women's Hoops

Women's Basketball jumped out to a 10-0 lead to start the game and coasted to to 60-40 victory over visiting Apopka Tuesday night in the House of Payne. Senior Zoe Alexander scored 15 of her game-high 23 points in the first half, snatched down seven rebounds and collected three steals. Senior Truly Le buried a trio of three-pointers in the first half to finish with nine points as the Panthers (2-0) built a 17-point lead at the break, 36-19. In the third quarter, back-to-back buckets by sophomore Beyonce Sierra (six points, six rebounds) and a pair of threes by Nisa Costa (ten points) stretched the lead to 26 points (55-29) at the end of the third quarter. Freshman Ailey Schyck led the Panthers on the glass for the second straight game with eight rebounds. On the JV circuit, DP outscored Apopka, 9-2, to open the second half and built a 25-16 lead heading into the fourth quarter. Apopka rallied to tie the game with two minutes left but DP was able to hold off the Blue Darters for a 31-30 victory. Llayna Tolbert led the Panthers with ten points. DP will head to Jones Thursday night.
