Men's Basketball (1-1) suffered a tough loss to Ocoee in Thursday's season opener but Friday night against host West Orange, senior guard Rakeem Perry was the difference. Perry scored 18 points, dished out six assists and collected four rebounds to lead the Panthers to a 73-69 comeback victory which evened their record at 1-1. DP trailed by four with under five minutes remaining in the game but clutch shooting in the field, as well as at the free throw line, exorcised the demons of the night before. Junior Abdoulaye Thiam led the scoring column with a team-high 19 points, burying four from beyond the arc. Junior Shi Gaskin came off the bench and finished with 11 points. eight rebounds and was a perfect 5 for 5 from the free throw line, including a pair that put the Panthers up by one in the final minute of play. Juneau Anicette dropped in ten points, giving DP four players in double figures. Credit Gaskin, Thiam and Jordan Poventud with sealing the victory from the line in the last minute.

After a stunning loss on a last-second three pointer against Ocoee, JV Basketball had an opportunity to pull off a similar miracle against host West Orange but it wasn't to be as the Panthers fell, 52-50. Freshman Basketball improved to 2-0 on the year with a 46-43 victory over the Warriors. All three teams will return to the court Wednesday at Cypress Creek.
