Women's Basketball gets defensive
12/11/2018 11:18:00 PM

After a rough outing one night earlier against Wekiva, Women's Basketball went back to the fundamentals of solid defense and rebounding in a 51-28 battering of visiting Freedom Tuesday night. DP (4-4) raced out to a ten point lead in the opening quarter with sophomore Beyonce Sierra scoring six of her eight points during a 10-0 Panther run to close out the period. Sierra finished with a game-high ten rebounds. While the offense cooled off in the second quarter, DP still managed to build a 13-point lead when freshman Ailey Schyck (four points, eight rebounds) and Beyonce Sierra each ripped down a rebound and got the put-back bucket for a 23-10 lead. In the third quarter, senior Zoe Alexander had the hot hand as she dropped in eight of her game-high 17 points and senior Truly Le drained a three from the top of the key to push the lead to 39-20 heading into the fourth quarter. After Truly Le (15 points, five rebounds) opened with another long three to extend the lead to 22, Zoe Alexander finished off the barrage with a bank off the glass and the foul to seal the deal, ending her night with 17 points, nine rebounds, seven assists and six steals. JV Basketball trailed only once, 2-0, as they rolled to a 50-34 victory over Freedom to improve to 4-2. Both teams will host Oak Ridge Thursday night.
