Fueled by a 17-2 run to open the game, Men's Basketball jumped all over visiting Freedom and never let up in a 74-54 District victory Wednesday night. DP (4-2) had four players finish in double figures with ten players contributing to the scoring overall as the Panthers extended their all-time unbeaten streak vs. Freedom to 15 games. In the first quarter, Rakeem Perry drained a long three and finished off a layup after a Devon Buckhanon steal during a 13-0 run that gave DP a 20-6 lead. Second quarter action saw the lead swell to 24 points as Juneau Anicette's 17-foot jumper and a lay-in by Rakeem Perry sent the Panthers into the break up 35-11. Freedom (0-7) opened up the second half with an 8-0 run to make a game of it but a long three by Rakeem Perry and a perfect alley-oop pass from Perry to Abdulaye Thiam for a monster dunk triggered a 9-0 DP run that put the game away for good. Perry finished with a game-high 19 points, Thiam added 13, Jeremiah Barze contributed 11 and Juneau Anicette tallied ten. JV Basketball built an eight-point lead by halftime and pulled away for a 56-42 victory over Freedom to improve their record to 3-2. Isaiah Givens scored a team-high 17 points, Machai Campbell added eight and Joanes Fortilien another seven in DP's third straight win. Freshman Basketball got behind early and despite a late fourth quarter push, simply couldn't keep pace with Freedom in a 46-35 loss. Luis Frederick led DP (3-1) with eight points. Friday night will feature DP vs. the defending State Champion Oak Ridge Pioneers.
