For the third time in the last four years, Women's Weightlifting brought home the Metro West Conference Championship, boasting five individual champions, a runner-up and three third place finishers. DP outscored second place Jones, 55-36, and third place Apopka (29) while tying or shattering nine school records in the process. Senior Naomi Alezi broke two of her own records in capturing the 199-lb title with a record 165-lb bench, 160 lb clean and record 325-lb total lift. Sophomore Grace Fay won the 110-pound title with a record bench (120 lbs), a 110-lb clean and a 230-lb total lift. Sophomore Zamora St. Cyr captured the 129-lb championship with a record-tying 295-lb total lift (Jesily Ruiz, 2009) that included a 140-lb bench and a record 155-lb clean and jerk which eclipsed her previous mark by five pounds. In the 154-lb division, junior Jada St. Cyr earned the championship medal with a 310-lb total lift (175 bench, 145 clean) and senior Amani Guzman won the Metro West title in the unlimited class with a 370-lb total lift (185 bench, 185 clean). Junior Tyliyah Smith brought home a silver medal in the unlimited class with a 365-lb total (200 bench, 165 clean). Senior Angelle Domingue did the most damage to the record book by setting new marks for bench press (155 lbs, breaking Chanda Farrar's 2004 record by ten pounds), clean and jerk (160, tying her own mark) and total lift (315 lbs, breaking her own record) en route to a third place finish in the 169-pound class. Senior Megan Rush placed third in the 119-pound class with a 100-lb bench and 125-lb clean (225 total) and junior Destinee Alford completed the podium contingent with a third place finish in the 183-lb class with a total lift of 290 pounds (145 bench, 145 clean), just five pounds off the school record in each lift. DP will now focus on the upcoming District Championship January 16th at West Orange.
