At the City Beautiful Invitational at TFA, Men's Basketball battled back from a five-point deficit with 95 seconds left in the game as Rakeem Perry buried a three-pointer from 26 feet out with three seconds left to give DP a 72-71 victory over Downey Christian. DP (6-4) led the Patriots (8-6) by 15 after the first quarter and held on to a double-digit lead until the four minute mark of the third period. Turnovers plagued the Panthers as Downey surged to a five point lead, 69-64, with 1:35 left to play but Abdoulaye Thiam drained a three from the left corner to cut the deficit to 69-67. With 1:13 left, Juneau Anicette sacrificed his body and drew a charge to keep DP in the game. Moments later, Rakeem Perry calmly sank two free throws to tie the game at 69-69 with 43 seconds to play. After Downey scored a bucket with 15 seconds left, Rakeem Perry looked to drive in but with no room to run, the senior guard stepped back and launched a cannon from deep beyond the arc and splashed it home with three seconds left for the victory. Perry finished with 18 points, Abdoulaye Thiam went for a team-high 23 points, while Jordan Poventud and Juneau Anicette chipped in with 12 points apiece. DP will now take on Seffner Christian (4-3), who defeated West Orange, at 3:30 tomorrow for fifth place in the tournament.
