Women's Wrestling takes home the team title and five individual championships at the 2018 Lady Pirate Classic

Women's Wrestling wins Lady Pirate Classic

Women's Wrestling won their 14th consecutive tournament dating back through 2017 as seven wrestlers, including five champions, earned podium finishes at the Lady Pirate Classic at Matanzas HS Saturday. Two-time defending State Champion Shania Gowan pinned all five of her opponents to win the title at 162 pounds, increasing her season record to 15-0 with 15 pins. Junior Jessica Corredor pinned her four opponents to take the 100 pound championship and in in the process, elevated her season record to 14-0 with all victories via pin. Defending State Champion Karoline Ortiz pinned all five of her opponents at 128 pounds as her season record now stands at 14-0 with 11 pins. In the 172-pound class, junior LeAnn Bernard pinned three of her four opponents to win another title for DP and junior Jennifer Charles won the 134-pound championship (3-0, pin) as her season record improved to 13-1. Freshman Juliana Diaz (13-1 on the year, nine pins) won four of her five matches, three by pin, to finish second in the 117-pound class while junior Xiomara Roddy placed third at 184. The Panthers will host their own tournament Saturday, January 12th, in the House of Payne.
