With 12 lifters earning podium medals, including three champions, Women's Weightlifting crushed the rest of the field en route to their third Regional Championship in the last four years. DP went into the meet shorthanded, as three of its lifters, including two District medalists, elected not to compete citing other priorities, but the remaining members of the team left no doubt about their commitment as they rolled to victory by 33 points over second place Lakeland, 65-32. Junior Jada St. Cyr continues to add to her legacy as one of the top weightlifters in school history as she won the 154-pound weight class with a record-tying 345-pound total, including a new record 170-pound clean and jerk, for her second Regional Championship in as many years. Sophomore Zamora St. Cyr was also crowned a Regional Champion as she tied her own record with a 295-pound total lift in the 129-pound weight class. Senior Amani Guzman won her second consecutive Regional Championship in the Unlimited division with a 385-pound total lift that included a new school record clean and jerk of 195 pounds. Senior Destinee Alford was one of five silver medalists in the competition, setting school records in the 183-pound class in the clean and jerk (155) and total lift (305). Sophomore Grace Fay also earned a silver medal with a 230-pound total lift in the 110-pound class, as did senior Megan Rush at 119 pounds (240 total), senior Terriah Scott (280 total at 199 pounds) and junior Tyliyah Smith in the Unlimited division (360 total). Four Panthers earned bronze medals, led by junior Jessica Corredor, who tied her own bench record (110) en route to a 205-pound total in the 101-pound class. Sophomore Gabriela Serpa placed third at 110 pounds with a 205-pound total along with senior Carla Woolley (240 total at 129 pounds) and senior Shania Gowan (270 total at 169 pounds). In addition to our three champions who qualified automatically, Jessica Corredor (101) and Tyliyah Smith (Unlimited) also qualified for the State Championship meet February 8th in Panama City.
