2/9/2019 1:47:00 PM

Sophomore Jada St. Cyr and senior Amani Guzman both earned sixth place medals in their respective weight classes as Women's Weightlifting had an outstanding showing at the State Championship meet yesterday in Panama City. St. Cyr set a new school record in the 154-pound weight class with a 190-pound bench press and, coupled with her 155-pound clean and jerk, tied her school record with a total lift of 345 pounds. Guzman put up 190 pounds in both the bench press and clean and jerk for a total lift of 380 pounds in the unlimited class while junior Tyliyah Smith was right behind in her in seventh place with a 365-pound total that included her own personal record bench press of 205 pounds. Rounding out the DP contingent was sophomore Zamora St. Cyr, who placed 13th in the 129-pound class and in the process, claimed ownership of all three school records for bench press (150 pounds), clean and jerk (150 pounds) and total lift (300 pounds). For Guzman and Jada St. Cyr, their sixth-place showing represents DP's best individual finish since Ketondra Cuyler placed fifth in 2016. As a team, the Panthers placed 24th in the field of 76 teams. Congratulations to the ladies and to head coach Ben Sokolowsky on another amazing year!
