Women's Wrestling primed for three-peat

Women's Wrestling opened up their defense of their consecutive State Championships last night in the House of Payne and could not have gotten off to a much better start. DP ended the first day with 14 undefeated wrestlers in contention for titles including Jessica Corredor (100 lbs), Sterline Joseph (100), Juliana Diaz (117), Karoline Ortiz (127), Jennifer Charles (134), Mikayla Fountain (140), Jennifer Gabriel (147), Anastasia Etienne (154), Shania Gowan (162), Skyy Gowan (172), Xiomara Roddy (184), Naomi Alezi (199), Shedeline Ulysse (222) and Amani Guzman (287). DP holds a commanding lead over second-place Freedom (112-57.5) with third-place Orlando University picking up 54 points among the 94 competing teams. Semifinal action, as well as consolation rounds, continue tomorrow morning with the championship rounds expected to begin at 6:00 pm.
