Men's Water Polo 2nd at Lake Nona
2/17/2019 8:56:00 PM

After three decisive victories where they outscored their tournament opponents, 43-7, Men's Water Polo played catch-up to Winter Park throughout the championship game and came up short, 12-11, to take home the runner-up trophy at the Lake Nona Invitational. DP never trailed by more than two goals against the Wildcats and had plenty of opportunities to build a lead but sloppy play on defense proved insurmountable, particularly in the final quarter. Max Meisenheimer scored four goals, Sole Fratila added three and Gavin Collins delivered two more, while solo goals were cashed in by Max Collingwood and James Sweet, with Sweet leading the team in both assists (3) and steals (4). Gabe Madej stopped ten shots on goal. In the semifinal, DP had no problems with host Lake Nona, jumping out to a 9-0 halftime lead, in a 14-1 victory over the Lions. Max Meisenheimer led the Panthers (5-1) with five goals, James Sweet and Josh Chan scored two apiece, with solo goals credited to Colin Bryant, Gavin Collins, Sole Fratila, Dan Magrino, and Liam Ortiz. Magrino led the Panthers in both assists (6) and steals (4). DP will get back in the water Wednesday at home vs. Wekiva and on the road Thursday at Edgewater.
