Baseball pounds Oak Ridge
3/6/2019 7:26:00 PM

Will Sullivan blasted a two-run home run in the first inning and drove in three runs on the day as Baseball worked over host Oak Ridge for 18 runs in just four innings in an 18-2 victory. Sullivan jacked a 2-0 pitch over the right field wall to give DP (3-1) a 2-0 lead but the punishment was yet to come for the Pioneers. In the visiting second, DP exploded for seven more runs. CJ Cantwell opened the inning with a single to left, stole second, and scored on Derek Arroyo's shot to right. Arroyo would score DP's fourth run off a Raymond Negron-Valero sacrifice fly before Jacob Hartman walked, stole second and scored on a wild pitch for a 5-0 lead. Will Sullivan delivered an RBI single to center to score Brandon Fields and eventually scored on a passed ball. An RBI double by Noah Sullivan and a run-scoring single by CJ Cantwell pushed the lead to 9-0. Oak Ridge plated two runs in their half of the second but Joel Joffe got the DP offense rolling quickly in the third with a leadoff walk, a stolen base and scored on Raymond Negron-Valero's single to right to make it 10-2 and the Panthers continued their assault with eight more runs down the stretch. Will Sullivan finished 2-2 with a home run, three RBIs and scored three runs while Noah Sullivan went 3-4 with three RBIs and scored twice. CJ Cantwell was 3-3 with an RBI, scored twice and stole two bases. As a team, the Panthers collected 12 stolen bases on the day. Logan Bryan got the start on the hill and the senior allowed just one hit over four innings while striking out seven. DP will host Windermere Thursday afternoon at 4:00.

JV Baseball had their hearts cut out a night earlier watching a four-run lead evaporate into a loss but yesterday at John Barbati Field, the Panthers returned the favor. Aeden Anderson's two-out, two-run single in the bottom of the seventh inning gave DP a 7-6 victory over West Orange that evens their record at 1-1. DP jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning when Luis Rodriguez singled and scored on a groundout and Grant Houde reached on a fielder's choice and also came home on a groundout two batters later. But West Orange put four runs on the board in the second and added two more over the next three innings to take a 6-2 lead into the bottom of the fifth. DP cut the deficit in half on a passed ball that scored Aeden Anderson and an error that allowed Luis Rodriguez to score to make it 6-4. In the sixth, consecutive two-out walks to Tyler Blanchard, Aeden Anderson and Luis Rodriguez loaded the bases for Gian Mejias, who worked the count full before drawing a walk that scored Blanchard to pull the Panthers to within one, 6-5. In the deciding seventh inning, Aeden Anderson ripped a bases-loaded, 2-2 pitch into right field to bring home JJ Paulsen and Leonel Carrasco for the walk-off victory. JV will be back in action Tuesday at home vs. Lake Nona.
