Women's Track takes Fresh/Soph title

Backed by gold medal finishes in seven events, Women’s Track and Field won the Freshmen / Sophomore Metro West title by a whopping 119 points, boat racing second place Apopka, 216-97, last night at Showalter Field. DP started off the night with the 4 x 800m relay team (Jasmine Little, Amber He, Teaghan Connolly, Shannon Matzner) winning the gold in 10:46.96, and followed up with a gold in the 110m hurdles by Jayla Jones in 16.51. Adneiry Mercedes-Diaz took home the pole vault title with a height of 6’ 6”, as did Jasmine Little in the 1600m (5:47.85), Irmiris Mendez in the 300m hurdles (51.12), Naika Belizaire in the triple jump (32’ 2.25”) and Shannon Matzner in the 3200m (13:05.76). DP also took home seven silver medals with Julia Ferreira in the pole vault (5’ 6”), Teaghan Connolly in the 1600m (6:02.37), Zanea Formey in the triple jump (31’ 10.25”, Shakaeja Dore in the 200m (26.69), Sophie Cirineo in the 3200m (13:24.85), the 4 x 100m relay team of Shakaeja Dore, Lourdes Safford, Jarvia Carr and Rayanna Mathis (49.85) and the 4 x 400m relay team of Raina Scott, Jarvia Carr, Rayanna Mathis and Lourdes Safford  (4:15.62). DP also netted a total of six bronze medals, with Irmiris Mendez in the 100m hurdles (18.06), Rayanna Mathis in the 100m (12.72), Zaria Joseph in the discus (56’ 5”), Jayla Jones in the 300m hurdles (56.79), Amber He in the 800m (2:34.93) and Zanea Formey in the long jump (15’ 2.25”). DP will compete as a full team Saturday at the Brian Jaeger Classic at Showalter Field.
