Baseball gives Edgewater a 16-0 beatdown
3/13/2019 11:46:00 PM

Sure there were some underlying motivators leading up to Baseball's Metro West game vs. Edgewater but few of rational thought could have envisioned the Panthers hammering the previously undefeated Eagles as mercilessly as they did Wednesday afternoon. DP (6-2) rocked Edgewater (6-1) with nine extra base bits, including four home runs, in a 16-0 victory as every starter contributed to the 16-hit barrage. After starting pitcher CJ Cantwell struck out two of three batters in the first, the senior led off the home half by belting a 1-1 pitch over the center field fence to set the pace. Junior Brandon Fields rediscovered his stroke, lacing a double to center, and scored on an opposite field single by Will Sullivan. After Diego Garcia drilled a single to center, Sullivan moved over to third and came home on a groundout by Noah Sullivan for a 3-0 lead. Edgewater gathered some steam in the second with consecutive singles to lead off the inning but DP turned a 5-4 double play (Noah Sullivan to Carlos Lopez) and James Hurst made a spectacular diving catch in left field to end the inning. DP has made a habit of big innings this year and that was never more evident than in the second. With one out, Jacob Hartman dialed long distance, driving a 2-2 pitch over the left field fence for a 4-0 lead. Three batters later, Will Sullivan doubled and Diego Garcia followed with a double down the left field line to bring home Sullivan and Daniel Castaneda to push the lead to 6-0. With Garcia on second and two down, Noah Sullivan sent a rocket over the left field fence for a two-run bomb as the lead swelled to 8-0. The Panthers weren't done. Raymond Negron-Valero's RBI double and a two-run double by Jacob Hartman gave DP an 11-0 lead heading into the third and CJ Cantwell continued to throw gas on the mound, striking out the side. In the DP third, Will Sullivan's solo home run, an RBI base hit by Derek Arroyo, and a two-run single by Jacob Hartman highlighted a five-run rally as the Panthers battered Edgewater pitching like a heavy bag. Hartman finished the day 3-3 with five RBIs, Will Sullivan was 3-3 with three RBIs, Noah Sullivan went 2-3 with three RBIs and CJ Cantwell pitched three innings, scattering two hits while striking out five to pick up the victory. DP will jump back into District play this afternoon as they host Lake Nona at 4:00 pm.
