Baseball holds off Lake Nona for series sweep
3/15/2019 9:56:00 AM

After jumping out to a 3-0 first inning lead on visiting Lake Nona, Baseball withstood a pair of rallies in the third and seventh innings to beat back the Lions in a 7-5 victory. DP (7-2) tagged Lake Nona for three in the bottom of the first when Derek Arroyo drew a bases loaded walk, scoring CJ Cantwell, and Carlos Lopez followed with a two-run single to bring home Brandon Fields and Noah Sullivan. Mitchell Stockwell retired the Lions in order in the second and third innings but in the fourth, a pair of walks and a fielding error gave Lake Nona some life and a two-run single tied the game at 3-3. Stockwell struck out five over four innings of work, allowing just one hit and one earned run. Brandon Fields opened the Panther fifth with a single to left and Will Sullivan walked to put DP in business with nobody out. Fields moved over to third on a passed ball and scored on a sacrifice fly by Diego Garcia. Three batters later, Carlos Lopez ripped a double into left field to score Sullivan and the Panthers climbed back on top, 5-3. DP tacked on two more in the sixth when CJ Cantwell singled and scored on an RBI base bit from Will Sullivan and Brandon Fields walked and scored on a groundout. Up 7-3, DP staved of another Lake Nona rally in the seventh. After a walk, a double and a single brought home two runs, Noah Sullivan struck out the next batter and forced a popout to first to slam the door. Sullivan went three innings and struck out three to pick up the victory. Brandon Fields went 2-3 and scored three runs while Carlos Lopez was 2-3 and knocked in three. DP has now won four straight and will host Tennessee power Montgomery Bell Monday at 11:00 am.
