DP Flag Football traveled over to Valrico to face Steinbrenner HS in the opening game of the Bloomingdale Classic and the Panthers proved they belonged with a 25-12 victory over 7th-ranked Steinbrenner. DP got things going in the first quarter with a huge interception by Nisa Costa that set the offense up inside the Warriors' 20 and Megan Lapeyrouse made it pay off with a five-yard touchdown run for a 6-0 lead. In the second quarter, quarterback Ni'Kira Smith found Shiquila Bryant for a 25-yard touchdown pass and and Lapeyrouse added the extra point to push the lead to 13-0. After a Steinbrenner touchdown set the score at 13-6 at halftime, DP struck again in the third when Smith hit Mykiah Presley for a 60-yard scoring pass for a 19-6 lead but they weren't done. Later in the quarter, Smith and Bryant connected for a 35-yard gain and Nisa Costa topped off the drive with a two yard scoring pass from Smith to push the lead to 25-6.

DP continued tournament play Saturday and ran into a buzzsaw against top-ranked Riverview, falling 26-0, but rebounded in the final game with a 19-13 victory over Tampa Plant. Nisa Costa and Shiquila Bryant each returned an interception for a touchdown in the second half as the Panthers upped their record to 8-3. They'll host Windermere Tuesday.
